A Speedway Neighbor Who Takes Pride in the Details
Speedway Lawn Maintenance, LLC — “SLM” to a lot of our customers — started in 2020 in the Town of Speedway, home of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The idea was simple: be the lawn guy who actually calls back, shows up on the day he said, and cares whether the edge along the driveway is straight.
Owner Cameron McKinney still runs the routes. That matters more than it sounds. When the person who quoted your lawn is the same person mowing it, your preferences stick — the mowing height you like, the trim style around the beds, the gate that has to be latched because of the dog. It's why so many of our reviews mention the diagonal lines and the edging by name.
Most customers find us the old-fashioned way: a neighbor recommends us on Nextdoor or over the fence. We've grown from weekly mowing into seasonal fertilization programs, weed control, fall aeration and over-seeding, mulch installation, cleanups and winter snow removal — but we've stayed small on purpose.
How We Work
- We look before we quote. Grass type, shade, drainage, compaction, weeds, gates and pets — then we recommend only what the lawn needs.
- We watch the weather. Treatments go down when the soil and forecast say so, not when the calendar says so.
- We communicate by text. Skip a week, ask a question or send a photo of a problem spot — you're texting the owner.
- We fix what we miss. If something on a visit isn't right — a missed edge, a skipped gate, clippings on the walk — tell us within 48 hours and we come back and fix it at no charge.

What we do
The Lawn Work We're Known For
Most of our week is recurring work: weekly lawn mowing with a hard edge and a full blow-off, edging and string trimming, and a seasonal fertilization program with weed control timed to the weather. Late summer is core aeration and overseeding season on our heavy clay, and fall belongs to leaf removal.
Around that we fit mulch installation, bed maintenance and shrub trimming, spring and fall cleanups, and snow and ice removal for contract customers in winter. Homeowners are most of the list, and we also look after a handful of small commercial and HOA properties that want one accountable crew.
What we don't do, and who to call instead
- Tree climbing and removals. We clear limbs on the ground after a storm. Anything hanging, climbing work or wood near power lines goes to a certified arborist or the utility.
- Hardscape and irrigation installs. Patios, retaining walls and new sprinkler systems are specialist trades. We work around them and keep them clean.
- Mole and vole trapping. We point out the tunnels and repair the turf afterward. Trapping is a wildlife specialist's job.
- Round-the-clock snow response. We're a small crew, so storm calls are handled as crews allow, with contract customers first.
Telling you what we don't do is part of the job. We'd rather point you to the right person than take work we can't do well.
